How To Build Influence In Today’s Cyber World

steve-jobs-quote

Believe it OR NOT.

I am STILL a STRONG believer in FACE TO FACE contact.

If you haven’t noticed, there are SO many millions of people marketing their online content, selling goods, making millions….this is great, but…

I still believe in LONG TERM impact rather than quick results.

As human beings, we are prone to NOT trust people.

How do you build INFLUENCE in today’s cyber world? Just a few tips…

1. Attend events, parties, functions that relate to what you love, what you’re passionate about. AUTHENTICITY is key in today’s over populated blogs and websites. People don’t listen until you listen to them first. This means, making GENUINE friendships IN person. It’s been amazing to meet people I’ve met on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook in person- nothing is impossible these days. Of course, you can’t meet every single person, but FACE TO FACE contact definitely builds trust, chemistry, and connection.

2. Help Others & They’ll Help YOU in return – Just because I am going to be like Oprah one day doesn’t mean I have to be snobby about it (LOL!!). I believe giving someone a FREE connection, sending opportunities to people, networking the right people….giving students, newbies a chance, is a great way of being a mentor. In turn, they will support YOU and broadcast you because of your love and generosity.

3. GET GOOD at INTEGRATING YOUR LIFE – Get good at mentioning your work, your business….when you pay someone for their service or goods, make sure to mention your product or service too. Ask for them to promote you, give them your business card.

Places I have given out my business cards: Clubs, Bars, House Parties, Relative Functions, Work Events, Cafes, Banks (to the teller), on the bus, on the train, etc

I also leave stacks of my flyers and business cards at every cafe I go to. Every outing is an opportunity to expand, to build influence. The right person will pick up your card at the right time. Don’t ever give up, always be ready to promote yourself.

4. Be A Teacher – when you teach, you become an EXPERT at what you do. I will be creating a video about this. I was at a cross roads in my life and didn’t know what to do to generate income, plus I hated the 9 to 5. I drew a chart with 3 columns.

1 was my Skills and Talents. I wrote down everything I knew how to do and was good at.

2 was my PASSION– what excites YOU? What can you remember in the past that created a fire in your heart?

3 was MY VISION– The ultimate purpose and fire of your life. WHAT is your vision? Mine was to empower and help others be who they were meant to be…I want to help people SOAR to their FULLEST and beyond what they can imagine. That is my vision.

I linked all 3 and decided that I could teach everything that I was good at. Then birthed my business. You can discover your life calling too!

Living OUT OF DESIRE RATHER THAN SHOULDS

some-inspirational-quotes-20

I don’t believe in the word “should”.

I believe in listening to my inner voice and listening to my body when it says that it is tired. However, I am NOT saying that you should listen when it’s trying to be lazy. There is a major difference here.

Most of us grew up thinking that success only comes from hard work. I believe this is true, partially.

I believe success COMES from SMART work, not HARD work.

For example, if you had a really bad system for working, and you kept doing the same thing 40 hours a week, you’re not being SMART….you’re just wasting time.

Most human beings probably can’t concentrate for more than 1.5 – 2 hours.

That is WHY I believe we should listen to our bodies and mind and feelings. When we need a break, we will start to lose focus. Do jumping jacks, run around the block.

For me, I go and watch a movie at the $2 movie theater or I walk around the neighborhood. I hang out with friends at random parts of my week, but that allows for some relaxation and fun….because once I’m back home, I am WORKING FRIEND!

When I have snapped back from having fun, I WANT to work.

I believe that HUMAN BEINGS are MOTIVATED by desire.

What do I mean by this?

If I tell you to sit at a desk for 10 hours a day, would you want to? Probably not.

If I tell you to sit and work on a project that you could potentially reap $20,000 from, would you do it? Yes.

Desire. You desire that money. For something, whatever it is.

If we could get RID of the SHOULDS and the CONTROL, we can start motivating people by knowing their inner DESIRES. Start to observe what your friends, your boss, your coworkers, your mom or dad, your relatives, your husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend DESIRE.

Most of us desire a better life.

This BETTER LIFE is DIFFERENT for everyone.

My desire is to live a life of leisure and smart work. I want to work smart, and reap immensely for my talent and skill. I desire to love and help people with my talent. It’s not really about “should”, I think it’s about conquering the fears that stand in the way of our desires….my desire is to build successful coaching and real estate businesses.

Like any other human being, I have fears too. I have fears of rejection, fears of failure, but everyday, I push through….because I believe in life, in myself, in people, in God, in promises fulfilled.

I believe in my childhood dreams, do you?

3 BIG TIPS TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS

1. Don’t wait until everything is PERFECT– because life is not perfect and your life will always have ups and downs, take it from me!! I quit my full time job when I had just moved out for one month. Of course I had rent to pay, but somehow I followed MY GUTS.

If you wait for life to be PERFECT, you’ll NEVER DO anything worth doing.

2. Who said you had to GET A BIG LOAN to start your business? Start Small.

By business, you don’t need to be this BIG CEO of this BIG corporation….you just need to have your own idea, and run with it. Even if you are working out of your 200 sq ft studio and using your kitchen counter to create great crafts, writing your epic poems, or developing your own software.

By starting small, you have little risk to make big mistakes that may cost your whole life savings- if you have any. By starting small, you build on strong foundations and learn from every mistake you make.

3. Be a WEIRDO ALREADY.

The number one fear people have is HOW PEOPLE WILL VIEW THEM. Don’t give a crap about what people think. IN THE END, it is YOUR LIFE, not theirs to live. The weirder you are, the more people will notice you. Trust me, I was voted MOST UNIQUE in high school. Did I care a lot before? YES. Do I sometimes STILL care? Yes.

PS- 4 BONUS TIP:

Write a general schedule, a general plan and goals….but let the SPIRIT take you. Allow ROOM to meander, flow in the zone.

I started my business (Business of Rebekka Lien) by trying things. I’m still trying things everyday. I was inspired by street vendors selling feather earrings in Australia, started reselling myself, wholesaled, then sold used items, etc. I tried everything. Then I started teaching, and when one didn’t pay enough, I started hiring myself to teach private lessons.

I got job promoted pretty fast- BY MYSELF.

ImageWhen I first started, I had no idea if what I was doing was “THE RIGHT WAY”.

There’s no right way. There’s only one way, the one you try.

Progress Equals Happiness

It is ridiculously MIND-BLOWING to see that my hardships and struggles have become the very gift within me….to bless the world. Most of you…in the past year may have read my depressing, crazy, intense blog posts. A lot of them had to do with surviving my year of self employment. There are some facets of my life that are pretty similar from a year ago.

The one difference in my life- accepting the fact that I was called for a greater purpose of being an entrepreneur and future American Coach (me on the stage with thousands of people listening to my story). Sometimes when we FIGHT our callings, or when we rebel and fight the very thing that we are called to do…it can add much friction in our lives.

What is ONE THING that I see many people do?

Fight the very thing they love. Isn’t that ironic? The very thing you love to do and are called to do…you deny until it’s a starved lover. Like many desires in our lives, with much denial comes much dying in our hearts.

Thus….Choose your love and choose to fight for it. After awhile, your passion becomes your life. Life becomes a passionate living. And then…..

Phang_Nga_Bay_Phuket_Thailand

I’ll fly here….to places like the beaches of Thailand and look back. IT WAS ALL WORTH pursuing my passion. Because I have the free time and money to fly whenever I want. I hope you’ll join me too.

Setting Up Shop

Setting Up Shop

Hi Friends!!

I’m excited to share with you that I will be officially creating my own brand and hand picking all the coolest and most unique accessories to sell!! My items are unique and cute, great for gifts (especially Christmas gifts). My adventure has finally begun! Now I am just working on graphics and other things to add to my branding.

Meanwhile, shop My Ebay Store!

or my Etsy Store!

I had another freak attack about my life and my roommate had to pray for me, because I looked mentally ill walking into her room. I’ve been researching night and day, at times even dreaming about my next step, ideas for my business. I’m 23 years old, have worked in the fashion industry since 18 years old, and know what I want now!

It’s a scary journey, I’m not going to lie. Giving up the full time job to pursue my own business is freaky! Yet, the rewards of someone liking the items you sell – is SO REWARDING, so wow, it outweighs “stable income” or the “predictability” of driving to the same work, same route everyday. I knew this since the day I started “pretending to sell stuff” in my made up store (I’ve done this since I was 6 years old). I would invite friends over and pretend I was selling stuff to them.

I just love selling, I love the business of it. And more so- I love connecting with people and making them happy! With the beautiful things that they receive to beautify their life and outfits.

Wish me lots of luck! And if you would like to invest in a starving artist, while I’m buying stock in faith, and trust God to provide- click here to give, even $10 is appreciate! 🙂

Fundraising For My Love Journey

Hello Folks!

If you have wandered upon my page, you will know, I am different, unique….interesting maybe? Different.

In less than 3 weeks I will be backpacking in Australia. My goal is to love each person that I am “divinely” appointed to meet. This could be a sales rep, a waitress, a business man, the flight host, a DJ, an artist, an accountant, dancer, volunteer, homeless folk, anyone really. How will I do that? I will be their friend. If this world is lacking something, it’s definitely lacking friends, or people who are willing to STOP their agendas, their work, their goal of making lots of money, to listen to someone that needs to be heard.

To donate: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=3S4Y8WMEAVLWC

How Will I Love People- I will first and foremost listen.

I will also be be-friended and inspired by those that I meet. As you know, I am currently writing a memoir that will transform communities. It is a unique story about my life, but also a live journal that I am currently writing – based on the present future. It seeks to touch hearts, change hearts, and bring more beauty and healing into the world.

Here’s where I need your help and your investment. As a hippie who has quit her normal 8 to 5 job, I’ve been living off noodles, 99 cents store cabbages, selling vintage clothes on ebay, and well, the mere necessities. I’m not really living the glamorous life, but I’m so grateful because I have all the LOVE that I need in my friends and family.

That’s all I really need.

THE CATEGORIES  & THE NEEDS FOR MY JOURNEY OF LOVE:
$10 – can feed me for a day (minimally if I ate bagels and water)- Note US exchange rate sucks. It’s 1.10 US to 1 AUD. $15 is preferred if you would like me to be healthy.
$21 – can house me for a night @ a hostel- where I usually make friends with
$200- pays for buses/transportations for a whole month (I think….)
$70- pays for a one way flight ticket to Melbourne from Sydney
$100- pays for a one way to West Australia
$560 – houses me in hostels for the whole month
$1258 – pays for my roundtrip flight ticket
I swear if ONE person donates, I will seriously cry because I know that I am NOT a nutcase and really have people behind me!

Click DONATE to contribute to My Journey of Love! Whatever you SOW, you will surely REAP. I know this because I’ve seen it in my own life! Going on this trip was a risky decision, but I dare not stop supporting my ecuadorean boy and the orphans in Moldova. I will keep supporting those that need it and have faith that God will provide all that I need! 🙂

How I’m Able to Work and Travel Quite A Bit

Hey Rebekka,

This is really an impulse message, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on this matter.

From my noticing of my facebook news feeds haha, it seems like you’re able to work and travel quite a bit. I’m kind of in one of those post-college moments where I think that before I get married in my early 30’s or late 20’s, I want to be able to travel the world and experience what there is to offer. At the same time, I know right now is an incredibly important time to start being smart with finances(adding money to your roth IRA, all that stuff).

My question is, how are you able to travel a lot, manage your work, and I guess keep an eye on your finances? I would love to hear your thoughts since you’ve been through this.

===============================================================================================

This seriously made my day. To know that I have inspired someone, or to help others question the norm and to live outside the socialized, pre-made box that is boring, mundane.

I will be answering this question, but I thought perhaps I’ll write up a few pointers.

3 KEY STEPS TO BECOMING A TRUE NOMAD

1. Trust in the Lord, not in your finance– money will never give you true happiness. You can have a million dollars, a billion dollars, a few cents, a dollar, and still be unhappy. Money is relative. Social status is also relative.

  • When you know that God loves you and is a provider, that He provides even for the sparrows and the ants- how much more He provides all that you need!!! Because He loves and cares for YOU! YES the UNIQUE YOU!

2. Work IS NOT your life, It Does Not Define You- Work should NOT define who you are. What you do does not define who you are. Yes, you may be an artist or accountant, but that’s not who you are. You are _________ (plug in your name). What you do overflows out of WHO you are- your beliefs, your convictions, your personality, your core, your spirit, your BEING.

  • You need to SHIFT out of that mentality. The world wants to socialize you to sit at a desk for 10 billion hours until the day you die and fall into your coffin. YOU DO NOT LIVE for vacations- that is a SAD way to live. Because you only get one week or two weeks, or three per year. If that’s so, the rest of the year is a waste of time.

3. Learn to TAKE RISK, for it is the ONLY path of a nomad– LEARN TO TAKE RISKS. Even if it’s a small one. If you usually drink lattes, get cappuccinos. If you only wear socks that match, wear ones that don’t. If you are scared of one thing, whatever it is, DO IT! YES, do that which scares you. There’s a reason you are scared of it, it means you are destined to conquer it!

  • Perhaps the normal thing to do is to count how much you are earning each day and be afraid to take days off for the things that you truly enjoy. Well, don’t live in FEAR, LIVE IN RISK! Live for that which your heart pounds LOUDLY for.

I took many days off work to attend seminars, conferences, travel and to refresh my soul. The several hundred dollars that were deducted from my paycheck could not have given me the joy that my travels did.

Let me ask you– Does a few hundred dollar more make a difference? Do you really need to get expensive clothes and bags? Do you really need to eat out all the time? Or would you rather backpack in a foreign state or country and enjoy the BLISS of meeting new people and animals.

Bottom LINE! I’d rather live in risk and change, then live in conformity and mediocrity, and eventually- hatred of my life. I’d rather have the NOW of not knowing where my income will come from, then the certainty of hum drum and boredom.

‎”the choice isn’t between success and failure; its between choosing risk and striving for greatness, or risk nothing and being certain of mediocrity” – forgot who I got this from….

The perfect time will not come. It never does. Paths are made by walking.

I googled “creative entrepreneurship” and found Jonathan Mead, Illuminated Mind. I am seriously blown away by his thoughts and thinking. I now realize that I’m not the only one who is “discontent” with “how things are”. The creative entrepreneur seeks to break traditions and form unique identities within society- new ways that challenge social norms such as the 9 to 5 or work should suck, or we live to work.  Shouldn’t life just be LIVING OUT WHO YOU ARE TO THE FULLEST? Not just pretending you are some domesticated mute slavishly obeying rules?

Jonathan Mead- The problem arises when you realize that

everyone else has an idea of what you should be doing

with your time. In other words: if you don’t choose a

purpose, someone else probably has one for you.

I realized that it’s not that hard to pay yourself to be

who you are. As soon as I chose a purpose for myself, it

became easy for me to see all the ways I could provide

value to others while following it.

You have to choose your purpose. You have to choose

the way you contribute value that is meaningful to

others. You have to find a way to pay yourself for the

value you share.

I want to help you make the change you want in

your life. Please don’t read this as entertainment. Do

something with it.

Because if you don’t implement, nothing will change.

No action, no results.

The perfect time will not come. It never does.

Paths are made by walking.
