In 3 weeks or so, I’ll be jetting to Australia! I know! My life is so exciting!!
I’ll be there from 9/11- 10/11 and I’ll be going to several cities- for sure Sydney and Melbourne.
Some things of TO DO’s ON MY LIST:
1. Connect with like minded people, artists, musicians, dancers, creative minds, cool people like you.
2. Dance with a kangaroo
3. Shuffle at a rave (I know I’m lame, apparently people who shuffle in Australia are 15-17 year old boys and girls….and I’m 23)
4. Meet some life long friends- yes, like the type that you talk to more than once a month, or once in two months, friends that I can definitely call – SOUL MATES as they would call it.
5. Buy some really cool and unique swag not found in the US.
6. Meet and contact some folks through twitter/tumblr. This is my most exciting project!!! I think this will trip everyone out.
I googled “creative entrepreneurship” and found Jonathan Mead, Illuminated Mind. I am seriously blown away by his thoughts and thinking. I now realize that I’m not the only one who is “discontent” with “how things are”. The creative entrepreneur seeks to break traditions and form unique identities within society- new ways that challenge social norms such as the 9 to 5 or work should suck, or we live to work. Shouldn’t life just be LIVING OUT WHO YOU ARE TO THE FULLEST? Not just pretending you are some domesticated mute slavishly obeying rules?
Jonathan Mead- The problem arises when you realize that
everyone else has an idea of what you should be doing
with your time. In other words: if you don’t choose a
purpose, someone else probably has one for you.
I realized that it’s not that hard to pay yourself to be
who you are. As soon as I chose a purpose for myself, it
became easy for me to see all the ways I could provide
value to others while following it.
You have to choose your purpose. You have to choose
the way you contribute value that is meaningful to
others. You have to find a way to pay yourself for the
value you share.
I want to help you make the change you want in
your life. Please don’t read this as entertainment. Do
something with it.
Because if you don’t implement, nothing will change.
I love these hates! I have 2 fedoras from Japan like the ones below. I found this ridiculously CUTE website called www.ca4la.com. J’ADORE with a big ADORE. Here are some of my selections:
So moving onto my current job search….I must say that it is, in 3 words, difficult, exciting, and scary. As I’m listening to French radio, I think of all the memories that fill my mind. Though it is scary leaving everything I know, I know that God is going to take care of my mom and brother here in Los Angeles. I mean, just watch Finding Nemo- kids are supposed to carve their own sculpture and leave their nest. I can’t wait to meet expatriates that think worldly thoughts, regarding travel, culture, and language. As I share my desire to go overseas, I find that many of my friends also have the same dream….but which of those will actually act upon their dreams. I hope and pray that they will also get to fulfill their dream of traveling and realize that traveling is bigger than just experiencing new cultures. Traveling means loving people that are different from yourself. That is what traveling is really about.
BY THE WAY. I have to express my anger at peoples’ ignorance of fashion. I bumped into this dude that expressed his concern over my un-matching clothes. He asked why in the world I would match the colors I did. His face twitched in dismay that I was a fashion designer and DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO MATCH, because “isn’t fashion about fitting in?” I shook my head in more dismay. The ignorance of mankind. I said, “Fashion is about expressing yourself”. I didn’t say this….but just look at the runway- look at couture, it is the SHOCK value that fashion expresses itself best. He said, “why would you match leopard print with checkered pants with purple and pink and a green watch?” I said, “because I felt like it this morning”. Even when I left, he kept calling me “Taiwan”. Wow, I’m so sad for people that have no cultural understanding.
Fashion to me is:
An art form, an expression of humanity and self
Reflection of the times, reflection of societal norms and societal disparities
History
Emotions, feelings
Architecture
Culture
Everything basically (rebellion, conformity, explosion of colors, everything you can possibly fathom)
I call Alice in Fru Fru Land because everything was so fru fru and pretty. We went to go watch the midnight show, opening night. Whoever did the costume design, I LOVE IT. But that’s pretty much it. The special effects, 3d, trippy motions, and colors made it awesome. I can’t say the plot was any good, I mean it’s just what it is. It went by really fast. I was just dazed and confused, everything was popping up out of nowhere, running around and falling down.
First off- THANK YOU ALL who commented on my blog entry. I really had no idea people, strangers, in fact, could find my blog. But now, I know there are people listening to my rampant thoughts!
A few days ago, I followed my vegan catering friends, Isabel and Stephanie (Vegan Venom Baking and Vegan Goodies Cater Co.) into the alleys of LA, specifically The Smells. I believe it is a non-profit venue? Someone confirm that with me. Kimya Dawson, the amazing singer of Juno soundtrack, was the key performer. HOLLA was I excited. That day I had a 3 pm class at FIDM. I rode the bus, accidentally leaving my whole school notebook, syllabus, and folder. Talk about being absent- minded. Then I walk into my class and wonder why people are so comfy. I tap this girl’s shoulder, “is this the first day of this class?”. She looks at me ridiculously, “no, it’s the 2nd week of school”. Oh.
In that case.
My face grew hot with embarrassment. Now mind you, I don’t get embarrassed easily, at ALL.
Moving on with The Smells. A self- created video and pictures below to amuse you:
1. A tour of the place plus great Dawson music: I’m working on uploading videos more and more.
2. My Vegan friends (I actually like meat, not vegan myself) and their food table:
3. Hello talk about political art and the expression of thoughts: LOVE IT!
4. Cds and records to blow your mind:
5. We’re All Nuts: It’s quite true.
6. Creatures of the night, right next to the bathrooms.
7. My favorite subject- the bathroom
8. Taco Dance: at the end, people were leaving and we wanted to make sure people stayed for our taco/horchata combo special. I drew this AWESOME picture and hooked it onto some random hook on the wall. Then we created a taco dance to make sure people stop in their tracks.
9. Last of all: The great Kimya Dawson standing next to ME!! OH MY DEER! I love your lyrics and songs if you ever read this Kimya.
Don’t forget to a fan “vegan venom baking” and “Vegan Cater Co.” on facebook!
I will be blogging about kids clothes next time. I’m addicted to the colors, cuteness, and the awesome designs you can create for kids.
Hope In The City Fashion Show is FAST approaching- I have a COUTURE- esque design in the show(punk, funk, deconstructed couture gown), modeled by Hana Lee, amazing model with attitude! I created a Facebook Event, so search “Hope In The City” and RSVP or just show up! No RSVP required. If you are walking in FIDM’s student lounge, you will also see fliers posted. All are welcome to come!
(above) The day I had to turn in my design. Yes, me furiously and ferociously sewing away. You do not want to miss out on this event, my friend designers have all put their hard work into designing their spanking pieces. Plus all proceeds benefit Awaken Humanity Projects, bringing hope to the city & other needs!
I’m excited to see many of you there and hope to meet NEW FRIENDS– so if you are reading this and you are at this point a stranger to me, walk up to me and introduce yourself! 🙂 I look forward to seeing you!
