Don’t let others look down on you because of your age.
Show them through love, experience, growth, wisdom and love that you are who you are.
People can say they are a certain age, but it does not mean they grew from their age-old experiences.
While, someone who is 18 could be 100 years old in spirit because they chose to learn valuable lessons from their 18 years on earth.
Keep learning, keep thirsting for more in life because that is what signifies true growth.
I will keep today short since I have to go to a real estate training early in the morning. I wrote this blog entry because people are often shocked when they hear me speak at events. They are shocked that I am so wise for my age. Like I said, if you don’t learn from your experiences, then those years of experiences mean nothing. Take hold of your experiences and let them be your mentors of growth. Growing up, often left alone to play, I had to observe the world. I was constantly observing people, elders, other peers…
I learned from my own experiences, but also from others. I learned from my older sibling, what not to do, what to do…I learned from my parents, I learned from my teachers and mentors. I avoided the bad choices other people made.
How about you? How has experiences in life made you stronger, wiser, smarter?
Learn to be in your body, yes. This means being, wholly in your body.
Sensing your legs, your limbs, your muscles, your arms, your nose…using your facial expressions to be in this world.
This means, stop the thinking.
Stop the worrying and the obsessing over life that needs none of your negativity.
You only need to be in your body, possess your body like you are a soul entering back into your body, fully alive.
Learn to dance, to jump, to laugh freely. Don’t be afraid of what others think of you.
Be silly in your body. As we pump blood from our hearts, we will start to feel what our hearts have been saying all along.
This heart speaks the truth. It is your truth of how you feel, but we often forget it in the midst of listening to our heads.
This heart has truths we denied, did not want to face.
This heart has the emotions we looked down on, sadness, anger, jealousy.
We have ignored our hearts for way too long, let the breeze of wind prickle your skin and let your heart burst wide open for your personal inspection and comfort. Let it be, learn to be in your body.
When I do yoga, I often close my eyes and see visions of life. I see myself with my Father, walking down rainbows and gardens. I see revelations of my life flash before my hidden heart. I find emotions too deep to be ignored, bursting with sadness. I find peace when I awake to life after a restful yoga practice.
“A ship is always safe at the shore – but that is NOT what it
is built for.” ― Albert Einstein
In the beginning of the year, I had decided to buy a betta fish because I wanted something new in life and also something alive to come home to. I named the fish Allen because I drove by Allen Ave in Pasadena.
It grew and became a beautiful purple fish. I wanted to prove to myself that I could take care of life. When I was young, I had turtles and fishes, but somehow they all died fast (according to my memory). Every time a fish died, I felt a bit of my soul sadden. Our family had a dog for one day, named Arnold. My mom decided to return it because it was clingy like a kid and she could not bear having another kid around the house.
I think I literally cried until my eyes looked like a puff fish.
After my fishes Allen and Catalina died on the same day, I had dreams of Allen swimming.
I was relieved and sad that they had died, and felt that it was better for me to focus on work, rather than spend time changing out water and feeding a fish.
The next day, my boyfriend came over. He was holding a petco bag that I assumed was his dinner. “Is that your dinner?” – I asked. Turns out, IT WAS A FISH! He bought me a goldfish which was much bigger than my betta fish. I had never seen a gold fish like this. I was honestly touched and surprised.
Looks like the fish is getting too big for its tank- maybe it is symbolic that I am becoming a new fish, too big for my tank. I need to get a bigger tank for my life. Perhaps YOU are growing too big for your tank, whether it is your immediate circle of influence, workplace, or life goals. Maybe you need to set new visions, expand to a bigger office, get a bigger loan and investors for your business, make more like-minded friends, quit your job and start a business…think BIGGER.
Another lesson I gleaned from this story? Life is about trying over and over again. I heard Donald Trump went bankrupt 4 times! Look at where he is now! He is far more wiser and smarter because of his experiences. Maybe you have been hurt over a broken relationship, scarred by bad people, made mistakes that made you NOT want to try it again…don’t give up. Keep trying.
I backpacked in the jungles of Ecuador and throughout Brazil by myself last year. If I had listened to all the fears that people were spewing, trying to warn me of dangers and diseases, I would not have experienced the incredible time of my life, listening to birds in the dark night and watching the rapids with native Ecuadoreans.
If I had listened to people asking me how I was going to afford rent when I quit my full time job, I would not be a realtor and entrepreneur today. I would not be waking up on a Thursday morning at 8:20 AM in my pajamas writing this blog (In FACT, I would be getting ready for work and driving in LA traffic- Thank GOD I don’t have to do that).
How HAVE YOU become the person you are because you CHOSE to try again, to try bigger things despite what people said?
You are everything you need to move forward, to step forward to the next path.
You are enough for me.
Have courage, you can not see ahead, but you see the next step, so take the step.
Even if you feel this low-grade depression, you can’t get up in the morning, you can’t move forward…you are enough. You are enough to keep going. It is all in you, seek the courage that is within you. Seek truth from something bigger, something higher, something you can not see.
We live not by sight, but by faith. When others shrink, we choose to run. When others are scared of the economy, of their health, of their lives, we choose to be brave. We choose to give when others hoard, we choose to build our spirit, rather than tear our spirit down with junk.
We seek beauty when there seems to be so much ugliness.
You are enough to stand up for justice, even when most choose to silence their souls and their mouths.
Our lives are not only about our careers or advancing our careers, our lives is a holistic growth which sings for depth. Without this realization, we will continue to feel empty. My job each day is to ask myself questions and to be aware of my spirit.
How can you be courageous today and do something you need to do or have been wanting to do?
Yesterday I had an epiphany, I wanted to dig deeper into why I had this hovering fear. I came into the conclusion that underneath it all, there was this fear that “I am not enough”.
I strongly believe that we, underneath the outer material appearances, long to fulfill this question “am I worth it?” As human beings, we long for this existential peace which we think we can attain by:
1. Doing more, because then people will see I’m worth it
2. Earning more, because then we can buy the things that will show that we are worth it
3. Rebelling to the point of being on the brink of being hated by many- this is also a method in which we can portray our worth to others, by trying REALLY hard to be different, and essentially not being who we really are.
I can go on to list how we manifest our reality with our mindsets. We must be aware that there are mindsets that will lead us to emptiness. Here are a few:
1. The spirit of poverty and a mindset that there is scarcity in the world– this leads us to compete with others, even in the mind. As we compare ourselves to those that are more successful, we are believing in the lie that we are NOT ENOUGH.
2. The belief that we are really all the same and that we must conform in order to win– this is also fatal as usually the unique stand out in the market, not the conformists.
Perhaps we can replace our negative mindsets with:
1. I am destined for a unique destiny
2. I am loved and fated to change history
3. I am a world shaker
4. My life is my responsibility, I should only focus on my life and what my destiny calls me to do, versus trying to figure out what other people are doing and imitating it. There’s only one of you, so make sure you are not trying to be someone else.
I have been watching many documentaries and my daily practice includes yoga and pilates. I have discovered that there is a rhythm to life.
The rhythm of life includes seasons.
Seasons can be split even into weeks. It is not just fall, summer, spring and winter, it is a season of working and a season of letting go.
In our American society, we often think of working hard until our time to retire.
I believe the contrary, I believe that in order to live a long life of health and happiness, we must learn to surrender to the rhythm of life and observe the seasons that require us to throw our hands back and listen to stillness.
This season requires us to trust that everything will work out, that there is a higher wisdom which we do not understand now, but will eventually.
Our unrelenting striving can cause physical illness, mental anxiety, anxiety attacks, unstable hormones, emotional breakdowns, temperamental issues, and others.
That is why, it is ESSENTIAL to allow ourselves to be still, to do nothing, to breath deeply, to listen and observe, and soak in wisdom about our situations….and lastly to trust. I often try to figure things out with my thoughts, I research relentlessly, searching, striving.
Reacting. But reacting is not the our best creativity, our best service to the world, reacting is a left over remnant of our energy.
If we desire to be the best that we can be, we must give ourselves the best gift of letting go, sitting still, being still.
And perhaps, after an hour or two of continuously being still, we can give the best of ourselves to the world. Perhaps in those few hours, we attain more energy, more wisdom, more creativity, more ideas and revelations than we could EVER WORK for in 20-30 hours, weeks, months of work.
On most days, I am a Realtor, but I also like to speak at events created by collaborating with local businesses such as Modest Fly Art Gallery located in the little unpretentious corner of Tujunga. Of course if you enter, you will notice the beautiful chandeliers and decorations that boasts of art classes and art shows. Iren is an amazing Art Center Grad that happened to receive one of my emails….get this, I actually found her card at an Art Center show and inputted her email into my list. I know that is technically considered spam, but she actually showed up at my art show.
From there on, we met and we decided to collaborate on amazing life changing events such as tomorrows’- Create The Life You Want Workshop….which consists of:
EVERYTHING which will kick off your dream life.
Exactly.
I’m not exaggerating.
You will create a detailed and EVEN visual plan to achieve all that you have EVER desired.
How?

Growing up, I always considered myself unique and different.
My mother nurtured the creative gift in me and brought my brother and I to sketch at museums. We were well-cultured, attending classical concerts and also learning the gift of independent-thinking. I knew I was different and even more so when I moved to different countries where I didn’t know the language and had to learn to “be cool”.
One thing I am extremely grateful for was the MENTORS in my life that nurtured the WEIRD in me. They believed in me and thought my crazy dreams were special and needed to be protected. Of course, sometimes mentors don’t stay mentors forever and seasons in life brings them to stop believing in you or to be busy with their personal lives, these are all understandable situations.
I started working when I was just 14. Now, not many people were selling makeup at school, but I learned to find a way to make my own money. Fast forward, I am living my dreams with bamboos and orchids on my desk, typing away this blog post on my Mac. Has it been easy? Nope.
Sacrifice IS a must for entrepreneurs.
If we teach our youth that they have to sacrifice their dreams for security, what are we really doing?
We are destroying their hearts.
Not every youth has a strong heart and is able to protect their dreams from their parents, peers, friends. Especially if the overriding message is – “BE SECURE AND STABLE”.
Pursuing your DREAMS is not a secure and stable path.
The sacrifices might include…..over the years of being self-employed, the beginning consisted of:
1. Sacrificing going out with friends and instead forcing myself to eat at home, and at times even being hungry
2. Using second best office supplies, sometimes found at yard sales
3. Bearing the judgements and rebukes of family and friends alike, even people you thought you trusted.
And the list goes on….Though…
The Benefits:
1. Creating exactly and however you want your dream life and career to look like
2. Creating your life based on your top values such as freedom, love, flexibility
3. Leaving town and working at the same time – being completely MOBILE.
4. In the beginning it can be difficult, but if you persevere, the results are amazing!
5. Taking naps when you feel like it.
6. Working from cafes and libraries, choosing beautiful environments to work in versus a cold ACed room with neon lights (ew).
