Free food in china?

So I have one full day left until I leave for Los Angeles. I didn’t want to change $100 US dollars for such a short time so I have 1 something yuan left and my hostel key deposit which I get when I check out on wednesday. I figured I’d use my visa credit card. But guess what, it’s not widely accepted here.

So I decided to go to mcdonalds because like it’s from America right?

Everyone pays with their cell phone here in shanghai. No one carries cash…except maybe foreigners.

So visa was not accepted at mcdonalds in shanghai.

One of the employees tried to help me download alipay but gave up and just decided to give me free food. Like….I already ate dinner so I wanted cake.

So I can have cake and eat it too.

She even made me hot chocolate which is not on the menu. I will definitely remember her when I have some front row seats to my one woman show.

I tell people that I like slow travel….

Like sitting at a cafe drinking hot cocoa and eating cake.

And talking to a stranger…

who knew it would be fulfilled by a mcdonalds employee.

So there are nice people in china- because after some miserable experiences of rude interactions I thought “I’m so ready to go home”, but there is hope.

Prague: The Great

Prague: 2014

I rode a Euro Bus to Prague, this was an overnight bus from Berlin. We were startled by the bus as it jerked to avoid a ramp, the Polish girl next to me claimed that Polish drivers are reckless (as they get paid shit) and that the driver is probably drunk. I’m not scared. However, when we first got on the bus we were scared because there was the probability that the bus driver wouldn’t let us use the bathroom. I had to make this gesture of wiping my down there since the bathroom didn’t have toilet paper. The driver spoke no English and waved his hands “NO NO NO bathroom”. My bladder is my first concern when I get on buses that have no toilets. “Where am I going to pee?” is my first question when I board a bus.

I don’t drink liquids hours before a long bus ride…like in Thailand and Vietnma the buses don’t have toilets and you have to ask the bus driver to stop for a toilet break. Of course few people ask out of embarrassment.

I arrive around 5am in the morning, my 4 wheel duffel bag from Target reluctantly gets on a tram as I pull it with great difficulty (should have stuck with a backpack). Mind you, one of the zippers had already broken at my first destination (London).

The night is dark, and even though I often have doubts and fears, I have to get to the hostel first (this is my first instinct of survival when I’m traveling). A Czech lady helps me to the hostel, actually she walks me there. My first impression- a good one, they are kind here, they help strangers.

Most people think they need thousands of dollars, tens of thousands to travel so they NEVER do it.

Well, it’s actually quite affordable if you’re willing to tumble a little in bunk beds, like little kids do. I don’t mind it, I can sleep anywhere, I’m the best plane sleeper. I fall asleep right when I buckle up and even before they make those important announcements about flotations or something. I can sleep for hours on buses and time usually goes by pretty fast for me since I do my reflection on there.

Amsterdam hostel, if you can sleep to clubbing music then you should go to this hostel. There’s a cute little cat I like to nap with.

These are the hostels I’ve stayed at:

Hootananny hostel- about 15 pounds in the 8 bed room (London)

Leidseplein Hostel- about 9.99 Euros in a 12 bed room (Amsterdam)

Okay, get ready for this, I just booked hostels in Prague for 2.5 euros, I know, I’m not sure if I booked the right maximum amount of nights so I hope it worked, but that is about 25 euros for 10 nights.

So basically I’m staying around 15 US dollars for each night.

If you’re like me, you love cooking, well I love it.

I’ve made loads of good foods, including ramen (well, that’s not THAT great, but throw in an egg or kale and you got a gourmet ramen which would probably have cost 15 euros).

Find a friend to crash with 🙂

Don’t drink too much —-money goes fast if you drink too much (alcohol) obviously, save your liver and pregame, or just save your liver.
